A Storm, A Path, and A Love Story

Sunny Florida, beautiful lakes, my patio, a great cigar over a good read after work. Time? 6pm. Brush my hair, lip gloss on, grab a chair – hold breath – there he is! *Pretend to not see him!*

So, I loved to unwind on my patio by the lake, and each day as I relaxed I noticed something – or someone – a little different (in running shoes and a hoodie). Before I knew it, I was timing my “me time” with his “exercise time” and would wait patiently for him to run past *3 times precisely* while I pretended to not notice him. Somehow, Florida’s unpredictable weather and a big storm on the cusp is what brought us to even speak. One day, I noticed he was slowing down as he approached my back patio. Then, he stopped and offered a bit of help – event though I hadn’t asked. “If the storm comes, let me know if you’d like me to help you put your patio furniture away and put some sandbags out.” *I only had two chairs and a juice table…and c’mon, sandbags, really?* Flirty… “Oh, that’s OK. I think I got it. Thanks so much, though!”

A few days later, I encountered one of the many random moments in my life [if you know me well, you should be recalling another incident involving wolf spiders and 18 calls to Seneca at 1:00am 😨😂]. As I sat with my fallen closet spread across my living room floor and my patio door open, he runs by, stops, and asks if I need help. I decline, walking toward him, conversation ensues. As our conversation ends, he didn’t ask for my phone number, but gave me his… I had never encountered that before…
